MP Cameron Thomas Arrested on Suspicion of Assault and Controlling Behaviour

Cameron Thomas, the Member of Parliament for Tewkesbury, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. Following the arrest, the Liberal Democrat party has suspended Mr. Thomas and removed the party whip pending the outcome of a police investigation.

Gloucestershire Police confirmed that on June 17, a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. The individual was interviewed by officers and subsequently released on police bail while inquiries continue. Police have not officially named the suspect but it is widely understood to be Mr. Thomas.

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats stated, “Cameron Thomas MP has had the party whip suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation. We are unable to comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”

Elected in the 2024 general election, Cameron Thomas has a distinguished background, having served 23 years in the Royal Air Force. His military career included roles in telecommunications and information technology, as well as service as a Military Police Officer. His deployments covered a range of locations including Lincolnshire, the West Midlands, the Western Sovereign Base Area in Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Iraq, Oman, the UAE, and the United States.

The investigation into the allegations remains ongoing, and further updates are expected as police continue their enquiries.
