An overpass bridge on the motorway will be closed for five days starting Thursday, June 18, to allow for crucial resurfacing work. This closure affects the section of the A417 Ledbury Road near the M50 Bridge, between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day, with work concluding Wednesday, June 24. Notably, the road will remain open during the weekend.
The affected stretch, approximately 800 metres (half a mile), includes the overpass near junction 2 for Ledbury and Hereford. To accommodate traffic, a designated diversion route has been established, rerouting drivers into Worcestershire. This alternative adds about five miles to the journey and guides motorists north from Cook’s Lane junction, across the county border near Camer’s Green, then along the B4208, passing over the M50 near Pendock before returning to Gloucestershire via Pendock Road.
Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways team notes that although there are possible shorter routes, the official diversion is recommended to ensure vehicles remain on roads of similar class and quality. The resurfacing project is subject to change depending on weather conditions such as heavy rain or temperature fluctuations, as well as potential equipment failures or unexpected technical challenges during construction.
