Cheltenham Town’s newest forward, Lee Angol, brings more to the pitch than just size and strength, according to an insider from his former club Morecambe.
The 30-year-old striker turned down a contract extension at Morecambe’s Mazuma Mobile Stadium and signed a one-year deal with the Robins on Monday. During a season riddled with injuries, Angol still managed to score eight goals for Derek Adams’ side, which unfortunately suffered relegation to the National League.
Joel Shooter, communications lead and podcast producer for the Shrimps Trust, emphasized Angol’s impact when fit. “If he had been healthy all season, I’m confident our fight to avoid relegation would have been much stronger,” Shooter noted.

Often labeled a “target man” due to his imposing frame, Angol offers much more. “While he can certainly physically challenge defenders, his real strength lies in his technical ability,” Shooter explained. “He’s comfortable manipulating the ball in tight spaces and dribbling past opponents.”
Shooter also praised Angol’s intelligent movement around the penalty area. “He has a knack for finding dangerous positions where he can make an impact.”
Like many forwards, Angol occasionally picks up unnecessary fouls and can sometimes lose focus during matches. However, Shooter concluded, “He’s a quality striker for this level, though injuries have limited his consistency at Morecambe.”
Cheltenham Town fans will be hoping that Angol’s skills and knack for goals can help drive their team’s success in the coming season.
