Monty Don, beloved presenter of Gardeners' World, is set to take on a new challenge as he makes his debut hosting appearance on the long-running BBC panel show, Have I Got News For You. The show returns next month for its 71st series, marking an extraordinary 36 years on air.
Known for its sharp wit and blend of satire and absurdity, Have I Got News For You features team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton each week, joined by celebrity guest hosts and panelists who dissect the week’s major headlines with humour.
Monty will host episode two of the new series, airing Friday, April 10 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. He will be joined by comedian Chris McCausland, marking his eighth appearance on the show, and journalist Helen Lewis, making her thirteenth stint as a panellist.

This exciting venture follows Monty’s recent return to Gardeners' World for a fresh series, after the show’s traditional winter break. The 70-year-old has been a central figure on the gardening programme for over two decades. Filming at his Herefordshire home, Monty likens the experience to “going back to school” because of the intense production schedule involving weeks of preparation, filming, and editing.
Despite the workload, Monty remains passionate about gardening, citing Britain’s favourable climate and the nation’s deep love of gardening as key reasons for the unique appeal of British gardens.
Catch Monty Don as host on Have I Got News For You on April 10, 9pm, BBC One and iPlayer.
