Cheltenham Town manager Steve Cotterill reflected on a game filled with mixed emotions after his team secured a 2-2 draw against Barrow. “We started really well and took the lead, but a couple of decisions didn’t go our way and seemed to unsettle us,” Cotterill explained. He noted that the team’s composure wavered in the first half, allowing Barrow to gain the upper hand, but praised Cheltenham’s dominance and resilience in the second half.
Cotterill stressed the need to avoid costly mistakes, pointing to defensive errors that led to Barrow’s goals. “We’ve said not to dive in on Charlie McCann, yet that’s exactly what happened, giving them a chance to score. Our reaction to rebounds also needs to be sharper,” he added. Despite these setbacks, the manager was proud of his players' fight, especially after conceding late in the game. “Earlier in the season, a comeback like this was unlikely. The team showed growth and character to earn a point.”
The manager also praised the fans for their unwavering support throughout the match, emphasizing their importance to the club’s spirit. “They stayed with us from the first minute to the last, and that is crucial to me,” he said.

Cotterill commended groundsman Matt Utteridge for his dedicated work maintaining the pitch, acknowledging the challenges presented by the aging surface. “Matt does a brilliant job under tough conditions and deserves a lot of credit. If he decides to move on, we’ll support him fully, but we hope to retain him and possibly provide additional assistance,” Cotterill revealed.
Highlighting individual performances, Cotterill was pleased with Josh Davison’s contribution. “Tonight was one of his best games—strong, aggressive, and energetic. His improved running made a difference.” He also lauded Isaac Hutchinson for scoring the crucial late equalizer and noted Hutchinson’s nomination for League Two Player of the Month. “He had a shaky spell but has bounced back impressively. We believe in him.”
Reflecting on the team’s current unbeaten streak of five games, Cotterill expressed satisfaction given the challenges faced, including fielding a third-string lineup on occasion. “This run is not bad, especially considering what we’ve endured. The squad is in a much better place mentally and physically compared to earlier in the season.”
The manager acknowledged the tough nature of the fixture, saying, “Barrow are fighting hard to avoid relegation, and there are no easy games in this league. Our players are increasingly aware of their potential, and that’s evident in their collective disappointment when results don’t go our way.”
Concluding, Cotterill emphasized his ongoing commitment not just to the team, but to improving the entire club infrastructure. “This is my club, and I want to enhance every aspect of it to ensure continued progress.”
