The misconduct hearing concerning Gloucestershire Constabulary Chief Constable Rod Hansen has been postponed for at least four and a half months due to legal reasons.
Chief Constable Hansen, who denies all allegations, was suspended in October 2024 by Police and Crime Commissioner Chris Nelson following claims related to a data breach. Nearly a year ago, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) concluded that Hansen should face a gross misconduct hearing for allegedly failing to properly address a report about a staff member’s unauthorized search of police systems. This breach involved accessing third-party personal data after a road traffic collision in October 2022.
Additionally, Hansen is accused of providing a false or misleading statement during the subsequent investigation. The IOPC completed its investigation on August 8, 2025, determining there is sufficient evidence for a gross misconduct case against him.

The public hearing commenced on Thursday, July 16, 2025, at the University of Gloucestershire’s Park Campus in Cheltenham, a neutral location chosen for all parties involved. However, the panel overseeing the hearing, chaired by Roy Wilsher of His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services, has decided to adjourn the proceedings for legal reasons.
New dates for resuming the hearing are being considered for December 2025 or later.
