Mike Tindall’s Candid Response to Becoming a Prince

Mike Tindall, married to Zara Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter, spoke openly about his stance on becoming a prince within the Royal Family. “I would definitely turn that down,” he told Closer UK, emphasizing his preference not to hold a royal title. This sentiment is also shared by his wife, Zara, and her brother Peter Phillips.

Traditionally, only the father’s status determines the royal titles for children. As their father, Captain Mark Phillips, was not royal, neither Zara nor Peter holds a princely title. Despite having the opportunity to bestow titles upon her children, Princess Anne chose not to, prioritizing their independence.

In a Vanity Fair interview, Zara expressed her belief that having no titles has its advantages, citing the downsides that come with titles. She commended her mother’s decision and the influence of her family’s work ethic, which has shaped her own drive.

The absence of royal titles for Zara and Mike has arguably made them more relatable and approachable than other royals, as reported by the Express. Nevertheless, it hasn’t affected their close relationships within the family, with Mike forming a strong friendship with Prince William. With the reported rift between Prince William and Prince Harry, Mike has become like a brother to Prince William and has also taken on an “uncle” role with Prince George.

Body language expert Darren Stanton observed Mike’s hands-on and fun dynamic with Prince George, noting his natural inclination for such interaction due to years of playing physical sports.
