Two years have passed since the tragic death of Dr Michael Mosley on the Greek island of Symi, and his widow Clare Mosley has shared a heartfelt tribute to the man she loved and lost.
Michael Mosley, the renowned author and television presenter, died on June 5, 2024, at just 67 years old while on holiday in Greece. His sudden disappearance during a walk and subsequent discovery four days later near Agia Marina Beach left his wife and four children devastated. Despite the tragedy, his family has dedicated themselves to preserving his remarkable legacy.
An inquest and autopsy ruled out foul play but were unable to determine a definitive cause of death. Coroners suggested the most likely explanations were an unidentified medical episode or accidental heatstroke due to the intense Greek summer heat.

Marking the second anniversary of his passing, Clare opened up to The Times about her deep connection with Michael and her intuition that something tragic might occur. She described Michael as an “exceptional person” who was driven by curiosity and a fearless nature that led him to “push the boundaries.”
Drawing a poignant comparison to the Greek myth of Icarus—who flew too close to the sun and fell—Clare said, “Michael was an exceptional person, but I always kind of knew, somewhere, that he was going to… something was going to…” She reflected on how Michael’s daring spirit defined him and how she was not entirely surprised by the way events unfolded.
Beyond her personal reflections, Clare has focused on carrying forward Michael’s legacy. Speaking with the Mirror, she shared how the family’s commitment to his mission has been a source of purpose and energy. “We’re honouring his legacy in lots of ways. Strangely, a lot of it is through the family, who have all been passionate about continuing his mission. He was very single-minded about it, and it meant a lot to all of us,” she said.
Clare also discussed the meaningful work she has done alongside her sons, bringing new energy to the cause that meant so much to Michael. As part of commemorating the second anniversary of his death, Clare and their son Jack distributed 3,000 Fast800 memberships to members of the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation.
The Fast 800 program, created by Michael Mosley, is a lifestyle and weight management initiative recognized for supporting people living with Type 2 diabetes and those at risk of developing the condition. Through these efforts, Michael’s passion for health and wellness continues to inspire and help countless individuals.
