It has been two years since the devastating loss of Dr. Michael Mosley, the renowned author and television presenter, who passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2024, on the Greek island of Symi. At just 67 years old, his sudden death sent shockwaves through his family and admirers worldwide.
Michael’s disappearance during a walk led to a four-day search before his body was found near Agia Marina Beach, startlingly close to safety. An inquest and autopsy ruled out foul play, though the exact cause of death remained indeterminate. Experts speculated an unidentified medical episode or accidental heatstroke due to the intense heat as the most plausible causes.
In a poignant interview with The Times, his wife Clare Mosley opened up about the man she loved and lost. She described Michael as an extraordinary individual who was unafraid to “push the boundaries” in his relentless pursuit of knowledge and experience. Clare reflected on a parallel with the Greek myth of Icarus, suggesting Michael’s fearless curiosity and daring spirit sometimes took him “too high.”

“Michael was an exceptional person, but I always kind of knew, somewhere, that something was going to happen,” Clare shared. “He didn’t have a sense of fear. I suppose I always had a sense that he might fly too close to the sun, much like Icarus.”
Clare also expressed how the family has embraced preserving and advancing Michael’s legacy. “We’re honouring his legacy in lots of ways. Strangely, a lot of it is through the family, who have all been passionate about continuing his mission,” she told the Mirror’s Niamh Kirk. “It’s been hard work and busy, but in a good way. It’s given me energy to work together with my sons.”
In tribute to Michael’s dedication to health and wellness, Clare and their son Jack recently arranged for 3,000 Fast800 memberships to be offered through the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation. The Fast800 program, developed by Michael himself, has been widely acclaimed for its role in weight management and supporting people living with Type 2 diabetes or at risk of developing the disease.
Through such initiatives, Clare and the family ensure that Michael’s pioneering work and passion for better health continue to inspire and benefit many.
