Michael Barrymore’s Sweet South West Adventure: A Two-Word Verdict

Since relocating to the South West earlier this month, former BBC and ITV presenter Michael Barrymore has seamlessly settled into his picturesque Devon surroundings. Embracing the local lifestyle, Barrymore has been out and about exploring beaches, charming independent shops, cozy coffee houses, and diverse eateries, quickly becoming a familiar face in the community.

Though he briefly returned to London for hernia surgery last week, Barrymore is now back in Devon and recovering well. Recently, he delighted his nearly four million TikTok followers with one of his signature “munchie runs”—this time visiting a popular Torquay sweet shop, Sweet Dylemma.

Outside the shop, the 78-year-old excitedly announced, “Gang - I got some seriously cool munchies today," highlighting the shop’s extensive selection of imported treats. Inside, he loaded up on unique candies including Dr Pepper and Peeps marshmallows, Japanese Skittles, Hershey’s Mandarin Waffle bars, Liquorice Allsorts Nougat, Butterfinger French Toast-flavored bars, Double Dare Jelly Beans, and Fruit Salad Rope sweets.

Barrymore also selected beverages like Arizona Tropical ChillZicle and Spicy Mucho Mango Hot Honey, rounding out his haul with a £5 Chinese/Japanese Mystery Bag, a popular specialty of the store.

His succinct verdict on the shopping experience: “Very reasonable.” He praised the quality and variety, stating, “This place is really cool. The stock is so good, I’ll be back. It came to about 44 quid, which is very reasonable because look what was in my Mystery Bag.”

Sweet Dylemma, established in 2022, began as an online pick-and-mix service operating from a garage. In just two years, it has grown to boast four permanent locations, including coffee and sweet shops in Dartmouth, Newton Abbot, Torquay, and most recently Exmouth. The shop prides itself on offering a wide range of sweets—from nostalgic classics and TikTok trends to imported treats from around the globe—combined with personal, friendly customer service.

Fans responded enthusiastically to Barrymore’s sweet shop adventure on TikTok. One joked, “Michael, you’ll have to take me shopping, we could have a sugar rush together.” Another commented, “That Mystery Bag is banging! How reasonable, Michael.” Meanwhile, local residents expressed surprise at discovering the shop: “Been living in Torquay all my life and never knew this was a shop.” And a devoted follower pleaded, “King of munchie runs, can’t believe you came to Torquay, please come back soon.”
