Met Office Issues Yellow Snow Warning for Gloucestershire This Week

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow across Gloucestershire, warning residents to prepare for wintry conditions starting Wednesday afternoon and lasting until Thursday morning.

The alert, announced at 10am today, is in effect from 4pm on Wednesday, February 18, through 6am on Thursday, February 19. Snowfall is anticipated in areas including Stroud, Cirencester, Northleach, Winchcombe, and Moreton-in-Marsh, with accumulations of 2-5cm expected on higher ground.

Officials caution that the snow, combined with north-easterly winds and wet conditions, may cause travel delays on roads and disrupt daily activities. There is also a slight risk that some rural communities could become temporarily isolated, and power outages may occur.

Motorists are strongly advised to plan their journeys carefully, check for any delays or closures, and adjust their travel plans accordingly. The Met Office recommends drivers prepare their vehicles thoroughly and carry essential items such as warm clothing, food, water, blankets, torches, ice scrapers, warning triangles, high-visibility vests, and in-car phone chargers to stay safe in case of emergencies.

A Met Office spokesperson emphasized, “Snowy, wintry weather can create hazardous driving conditions and delays. Taking precautions and being prepared is vital to ensure everyone’s safety during this period.”
