The Met Office has issued two significant weather warnings for Gloucestershire and the South West, forecasting heavy rain and strong winds over the coming days that could lead to flooding and power outages.
The first warning, lasting 18 hours from 6am on Saturday, November 29, predicts heavy rainfall spreading across the South West, Wales, Yorkshire, London, and the East Midlands. Rain is expected to develop Friday night and continue through Saturday, with 60-80mm potentially falling on the region’s high ground.
Following this, a second 15-hour warning is in place for Monday, December 1, covering Gloucestershire and surrounding areas. This rain band will move in late Sunday evening and persist into Monday afternoon, with 40-50mm of rain expected in elevated areas such as the Cotswolds and up to 80mm on Dartmoor’s high ground.

The Met Office highlights that strong southwesterly winds will accompany the rainfall, particularly near the English Channel coasts, exacerbating the impact. These conditions could disrupt travel due to flooded roads and spray, delay transport services, and potentially isolate some communities. There is also a risk of flooding in homes and businesses, alongside possible power cuts.
Locally in Gloucestershire, the heaviest rain is forecast between 7:30am and 8am on Saturday, especially over the Cotswolds and Gloucester. The day’s weather will bring outbreaks of heavy rain in the morning, followed by sunshine and showers in the afternoon with temperatures reaching a maximum of 12°C before a windy, colder night.
Residents are urged to prepare for challenging weather by staying informed and exercising caution during travel and outdoor activities while these warnings are in effect.
