The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for extensive areas of England and Wales, including Gloucestershire, effective immediately. Dense fog is expected to reduce visibility drastically, posing hazardous conditions for commuters and travelers.
The alert came into effect at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3rd, and will remain until 9:45 a.m. The Met Office warns that fog patches will mostly affect rural areas, with visibility dropping below 100 meters in some locations.
Alongside Gloucestershire, the warning covers the East Midlands, East of England, London, South East England, South West England, Wales, and the West Midlands. Travelers in these regions should exercise caution, especially those using air travel, as the fog may cause flight delays or cancellations. Airports such as Luton and Heathrow fall within the affected zones.
Drivers are advised to take extra care by planning ahead, leaving additional time for journeys, and ensuring their vehicle’s fog lights are functioning properly. The Met Office also reminds the public to stay updated on possible disruptions to bus, train, flight, and ferry services.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually throughout the morning, but the fog will likely cause difficult driving situations during the peak hours.
In Gloucestershire, once the fog lifts, residents can expect a generally dry and bright day with occasional patchy clouds and light showers along coastal areas. Temperatures will reach a high of around 11 °C. The night will start clear but become increasingly cloudy with rain moving in overnight, including heavy downpours and scattered showers.
Thursday will see rain clearing from the eastern regions, but blustery showers will continue over the weekend. Moreover, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain affecting southern England and Wales early next week.
