Matty Taylor, the seasoned forward with past stints at Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, and Oxford United, is close to finalizing a move to Salisbury FC, according to Gloucestershire Live.
The 35-year-old striker was made available for transfer by Cheltenham Town at the end of last season, despite having one year left on his contract. Manager Michael Flynn recently revealed that Taylor is the club’s highest-paid player, and with uncertain prospects for regular game time in the 2025/26 season, a transfer is viewed as the best option for all involved.
Taylor joined Cheltenham Town from Forest Green Rovers in January 2024, agreeing to a two-and-a-half-year contract. During his time with the Robins, he made a significant impact, scoring seven goals in 11 League One starts, along with two substitute appearances under former manager Darrell Clarke.

His efforts were crucial in pushing Cheltenham’s relegation battle to the final day of the season, highlighted by his goal in a 2-1 defeat against Stevenage, which ultimately confirmed their drop to League Two.
In the last season, Taylor contributed five goals in 10 League Two starts and featured 27 times off the bench, adding two more goals in the EFL Trophy.
Taylor now appears set to join Salisbury FC, managed by former Bristol Rovers assistant Brian Dutton, competing in the National League South. Initially, a loan move was considered, but the transfer might now become permanent, bringing the Oxfordshire-based striker to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.
