Matty Taylor Departs Cheltenham Town for Salisbury FC

Matty Taylor, former forward for Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, and Oxford United, has officially left Cheltenham Town to join Salisbury FC. The 35-year-old striker’s contract with the Robins, initially set to run until next summer, was mutually terminated, allowing him to move on a free transfer.

Taylor has signed with Salisbury FC, a National League South club managed by Brian Dutton, who previously worked alongside Taylor during his Bristol Rovers days as assistant to Darrell Clarke. This move reunites Taylor with familiar management and represents a new chapter in his career.

He initially joined Cheltenham Town in January 2024, marking the third occasion Clarke signed him, having previously brought him to Bristol Rovers and Port Vale. During his time with the Robins, Taylor demonstrated a strong goal-scoring ability but was often limited by hamstring injuries.

At the conclusion of last season, Cheltenham’s current manager Michael Flynn made Taylor available for transfer, citing the inability to guarantee consistent playing time for the club’s highest earner. This development paved the way for Taylor to continue his career with Salisbury FC.
