In a heartfelt interview on ITV’s Lorraine last year, BBC Countryfile’s Matt Baker and his wife Nicola opened up about the challenges of maintaining their marriage while managing time apart due to Matt’s demanding filming schedule.
Host Lorraine Kelly asked the couple about their beginnings, teasing, “You two met when you were babies, right? Teenagers? Nicola, were you a farm girl?” Nicola admitted she wasn’t raised on a farm but had always loved the outdoors, saying, “Farming was something that came to me when we met.”
The conversation then turned to how they cope with being separated by work commitments. Lorraine pointed out, “You both have your own worlds—Matt traveling around Britain filming, Nicola writing her books. How do you manage the distance?”

Matt explained, “We are such do-ers and very supportive of each other’s passions. We’ve found our way through by focusing on what we love. It just works because there’s always something to talk about.” Nicola added that when they are together, they make a conscious effort to prioritize and truly enjoy their time.
Outside of the spotlight, Matt often shares glimpses of his personal life on Instagram. Recently, he posted a touching tribute to his late dog, Bob, who had been a loyal companion through many important moments, including raising their children and working on their family farm.
“It’s with a very heavy heart that I’m letting you know our wonderful Bob is no longer with us,” Matt wrote. “Bob was a brilliant dog, there for me as the ultimate companion through some of the greatest chapters of my life. I’m hugely grateful for everything he’s taught me and brought to our family. The only time dogs break our hearts is when they leave us. RIP Bob X.”
