BBC Countryfile presenter Matt Baker recently spoke candidly about the challenges of balancing his demanding filming schedule with family life, offering a heartfelt look into how he and his wife, Nicola, stay connected despite time spent apart.
During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine last year, Matt and Nicola reflected on their strong partnership, revealing the key to their enduring relationship. Lorraine Kelly playfully began by asking about their early days together. “Now, you two met when you were babies, right? Teenagers. Nicola, were you into farming? Were you a farm girl?” she quipped.
Nicola smiled and replied, “No, I wasn’t a farm girl. I loved being outdoors, but farming came into my life when we met.”

The conversation then turned to the challenge of managing long periods apart, especially when Matt is away filming Countryfile and pursuing other projects around Britain. Lorraine highlighted their separate careers, noting, “There are times when you’re apart, but do you think that sometimes works?”
Matt responded openly, “We are such do-ers. We are very supportive of each other’s passions.” He added, “We’ve just found our way through by focusing on what matters to us.”
Nicola shared the couple’s approach: “We make the most of the time we have together and prioritise that.”
Away from television, Matt frequently shares glimpses of his everyday life on Instagram. Recently, he posted a heartfelt tribute to his beloved dog, Bob, who had passed away after many loving years by his side.
In a moving message, Matt wrote, “It’s with a very heavy heart that I’m letting you know our wonderful Bob is no longer with us. He’s been gone a while, but I haven’t been able to talk about it as it’s been so incredibly sad.”
He continued to describe Bob as a “brilliant dog” and “the ultimate companion through some of the greatest chapters of my life, from raising our kids to the changes we made on our family farm.”
Matt’s tribute expressed deep gratitude: “It’s broken my heart, but I feel hugely grateful to have had him in our lives. I thank him from the bottom of my heart for everything he’s taught me and brought to our family.”
He concluded, “The only time dogs break our hearts is when they leave us. RIP Bob.”
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9:30am on ITV, where Matt continues to share insights into his personal and professional life.
