BBC Countryfile presenter Matt Baker recently offered a heartfelt glimpse into how he and his wife, Nicola, manage their relationship despite the challenges of his demanding filming schedule. Speaking candidly on ITV’s Lorraine, the couple discussed the realities of balancing time apart while supporting each other’s passions.
During the interview, host Lorraine Kelly asked about their unusual early connection. “You two met when you were teenagers, right? Nicola, were you a farm girl?” Lorraine inquired. Nicola replied warmly, “No, I wasn’t a farm girl. I loved the outdoors, but farming only became a part of my life after we met.”
The couple then addressed how they handle prolonged periods apart, particularly when Matt travels across Britain for Countryfile recordings. Lorraine noted, “You both go off doing your own things—writing, filming—yet you make it work. How do you manage that?”

Matt explained, “We are both doers and very supportive of each other’s goals. It just works because we focus on what we’re passionate about.” Nicola added, “We prioritise the time we have together and make the most of it.”
Despite his busy schedule, Matt keeps his followers updated with glimpses of personal moments, including a recent emotional tribute to their beloved dog, Bob. Sharing the heartbreaking news on Instagram, Matt wrote: “It’s with a very heavy heart I’m letting you know our wonderful Bob is no longer with us.”
He described Bob as “a brilliant dog and the ultimate companion through some of the greatest chapters of my life,” from raising their children to managing their family farm. Matt expressed deep gratitude for Bob’s presence, saying, “The reason we love our dogs so much is because the only time they break our hearts is when they leave us.”
The interview provided a touching reminder of the balance between professional commitments and family life, as well as the enduring bonds that keep loved ones connected through all of life’s changes.
