I’m celebrating the eclectic mix of wonderful stuff that I feel is the heartbeat of our Nations - I’ve had a magical career from Blue Peter to The One Show and Countryfile, and this series brings together all the elements I love about my experiences.
In every episode, I’m travelling across all four nations, immersing myself in our incredible landscapes and meeting the people who make our glorious British Isles what they are.
I hope you feel proud of our homelands when you watch it, and I hope you can join me on Tuesday for the first episode.”
Shortly after, Matt shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of the show. In one clip, he appears dressed in bright blue overalls preparing for an activity, while in another, he humorously introduces a “new camera operator”. He captioned the video:
“My new series Matt Baker’s British Isles starts Tuesday on More 4 at 9pm. Hope you can join me to celebrate the wonderful characters that make our home nations what they are.
Can’t wait for you to see it #England #NorthernIreland #Scotland #Wales.”
Fans quickly responded with enthusiasm and support. Comments poured in such as: “It’s gonna be a lovely watch… looking forward to it,” and “You and your team look like you had the best fun making these episodes! Can’t wait to see them.”
In the premiere episode, Matt visits Kent, where he meets an Englishman collaborating with one of the world’s most prestigious champagne houses to create the first true Anglo-French sparkling wine.
The journey continues in Scotland’s Highlands, visiting the village of Crathie, where Matt meets two remarkable men whose lives revolve around the local church—a Royal Chaplain and a celebrated fiddler—both once farmers and close to the royal family since the 19th century.
In Northern Ireland, Matt encounters a man whose childhood passion for guitars led him to craft revolutionary acoustic instruments sought after by some of the world’s biggest rock stars.
Finally, in Wales’s Rhondda Valley, Matt connects with a determined group transforming a buried Victorian railway tunnel into Europe’s longest walking and cycling path. He explores this hidden architectural marvel and contributes to the effort to reopen it to the public.
Matt Baker’s British Isles premieres June 3rd at 9pm on More 4, promising a captivating exploration of the nation’s landscapes, stories, and characters.
