A significant water pipe burst in Matson, Gloucester, early on Wednesday, May 14, causing considerable disruption in the area. The incident, which occurred around 6 a.m., sent a massive jet of water nearly 100 feet into the air, striking homes and flooding nearby roads at Sneedhams Green.
Severn Trent Water (STW) responded promptly, successfully reducing the burst’s impact to the point where it was no longer visible. Teams are now preparing to dig down to the affected section to fully assess the damage and carry out necessary repairs.

A spokesperson from Severn Trent Water stated: “Our teams have massively reduced the burst, and our priority is to keep water supplies running while assessing the repair work needed. We acknowledge the disruption caused and are grateful for the community’s patience. We are committed to restoring normality as swiftly as possible.”
At approximately 2 p.m., the water main was successfully turned off, earning cheers from local residents. Bottled water continues to be supplied to those impacted as engineers work to resolve the issue.
