‘Masterpiece’ Period Drama Filmed at Stunning Gloucestershire Manor Now Streaming

For fans of period dramas, the psychological thriller Phantom Thread is a must-watch. Now available to rent on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV, this captivating film delves into the complexities and toxicity of love set against the backdrop of 1950s London.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis as Reynolds Woodcock, a renowned fashion designer whose creations grace royalty and high society, the story explores his intricate relationship with Alma Elson, a young waitress and his muse, played by Luxembourgish-German actress Vicky Krieps. Lesley Manville, known for her role in The Crown, portrays Cyril Woodcock, Reynolds’ controlling sister and manager of the fashion house.

Directed and written by American filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, Phantom Thread marks his first film shot outside the United States and his second collaboration with Day-Lewis, following the 2007 film There Will Be Blood. The movie was primarily filmed at the stunning Tudor estate Owlpen Manor near Uley and Dursley in Gloucestershire, which doubled as Reynolds’ countryside retreat. Owlpen Manor has a rich filming history, having previously featured in Tess of the D’Urbervilles (2008), The Other Boleyn Girl (2007), and Escape to the Country.
