In the early hours of Monday, December 22, a group of four masked men launched a forceful ram raid on the Co-op store located on Market Square in Newent. Wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, the gang used weapons to break into the supermarket at around 12:35 a.m.
Once inside, the suspects attempted to breach the ATM using circular saws in a bid to steal cash. Despite causing significant damage to the shop interior and the ATM, the gang failed to obtain any money.
Following the attempted burglary, the group fled the scene in a black car. Gloucestershire Police have appealed for witnesses, urging anyone who observed the vehicle or the raid to come forward.
