The former House of Fraser store in Cabot Circus, Bristol is set to undergo a transformation as Marks & Spencer prepares to move in this autumn with new plans recently submitted. Marks & Spencer aims to rebrand the three-storey anchor store, modify entrances, and improve fire exits.
M&S made headlines last July with the announcement of its return to the city center following the closure of its Broadmead outlet in January 2022 after 70 years of operation. The company plans to invest £21 million to revamp the large unit, including the introduction of a spacious cafe, grocery supermarket, as well as clothing and home goods.
Having been operational for 16 years, House of Fraser ceased operations in August 2024. According to planning documents, M&S’s representatives stated, “The proposed alterations are required to support M&S’s significant investment in Bristol’s city centre and occupation of Cabot Circus’s anchor store. The proposed external alterations will enhance the appearance of the store and support the occupation of the key anchor store within Cabot Circus, enhancing the primary shopping center and wider city centre. The proposed development will create an attractive new shopfront for customers.”
