Mark Selby delivered a commanding performance to defeat Jack Lisowski 5-0 in the British Open quarter-finals, putting an end to the local favourite’s pursuit of a home victory. Lisowski, hailing from Churchdown in Gloucestershire, had impressed throughout the tournament held in Cheltenham, advancing to the last eight with strong play. However, facing the experience and skill of the four-time World Champion proved a step too far.
Selby set the tone early, producing an 82-clearance to take the opening frame convincingly. The second frame proved more fraught, but Selby maintained his composure to extend his lead. Despite a spirited response from Lisowski, Selby executed a pivotal snooker behind the yellow ball in the third frame which forced an error from Lisowski, shifting the momentum firmly in Selby’s favour.
The champion held his advantage going into the interval and returned to the table with renewed focus, winning the fourth and fifth frames to seal the victory. This win marks Selby’s fourth consecutive appearance in the semi-finals of the British Open.

Reflecting on the match, Selby said, “I felt better today than in my previous matches. The third frame was crucial because if Jack had won it, he would have been back in the match at 2-1. I know what a talent Jack is, so I had to keep him at bay and avoid unnecessary risks. When his shots are going in, he’s a world-beater. That’s how he plays, and it’s great to watch.”
