Map Reveals Heatwave Zones Starting Today, Including Gloucestershire

Heatwave conditions have officially begun today, Thursday, July 10, across numerous parts of England and Wales as temperatures climb above 30°C. To check if your local area is affected, you can use our interactive map. Forecasters predict a sweltering weekend nationwide, marking the third heatwave of the 2025 summer.

Currently, over 200 local authority areas have entered heatwave status, covering much of Southern England, the Midlands, North East England, and southern and mid-Wales. However, some southeastern coastal regions like Norfolk and Kent have not yet reached the heatwave threshold. Elsewhere, local variations exist—for example, most areas in Greater Manchester are experiencing the heatwave except for Bolton and nearby High Peak.

In Scotland, Glasgow is the only area entering heatwave conditions today. Yet, other regions, especially along the east coast, are expected to hit heatwave levels by tomorrow, with temperatures predicted to reach up to 31°C on Saturday—a potential local record, according to the Met Office.

Northern Ireland remains cooler, with no areas meeting heatwave criteria at this time.

An official heatwave is defined by the Met Office when temperatures surpass a set threshold for three consecutive days. These thresholds differ across the UK: London and parts of the South East require temperatures above 28°C, while the rest of the South East considers 27°C the threshold. In the South West, most of Wales, Northern England, Northern Ireland, and parts of Wales, the benchmark is 25°C.

Notably, Mid Devon began its heatwave yesterday with temperatures reaching 25°C and is now on Day 2 of a heatwave forecasted to last a minimum of four days.

Today, 211 other areas are set to start experiencing heatwave conditions, with temperatures predicted to exceed local thresholds throughout Friday and Saturday. Forecasts suggest many will experience a fourth consecutive day of high temperatures on Sunday.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued yellow heat health alerts covering portions of central and southern England, effective until July 15.

Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick commented, “It’s going to be a hot spell with minimal cloud cover. Pollen levels will also be high, so hayfever sufferers should take appropriate precautions.”
