A man was shot while sitting stationary in his vehicle in Lechlade, prompting a police investigation into attempted murder. The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 pm on Monday, April 20, on Butler’s Field.
Gloucestershire Police responded after receiving reports that a man had fired shots at another man seated in a vehicle. The victim, a man in his 30s, managed to drive a short distance away before seeking refuge inside a nearby property.
He was quickly transported to hospital with suspected gunshot wounds. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening at this time.
The suspect initially fled the scene in a vehicle but collided with parked cars, forcing him to escape on foot. Authorities recovered a firearm from the area during their search.
With assistance from the National Police Air Service, armed officers conducted a thorough search and detained a man in his 20s in Fairford just before 10 pm. The individual was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
Gloucestershire Police stated that the victim and suspect are believed to be known to each other and emphasized that no other suspects are being sought.
Acting Detective Inspector Sophie Dawkins commented, “This is a concerning incident that understandably caused distress in the community. We are in the early stages of our investigation and encourage anyone with information or footage to come forward."
