Man Shot in Vehicle in Lechlade Sparks Attempted Murder Investigation

A man was shot while sitting in his vehicle in Lechlade yesterday evening, prompting police to launch an attempted murder investigation.

The incident occurred around 7:10 pm on Monday, April 20, on Butler’s Field. Gloucestershire Police responded after reports that a man had been shot by another individual while stationary in his car.

The victim, a man in his 30s, managed to drive a short distance before seeking refuge inside a nearby property. He was taken to hospital with suspected gunshot wounds; thankfully, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect initially fled the scene in a vehicle but crashed into parked cars and then escaped on foot. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Following a search supported by Armed Response Units and the National Police Air Service, a man in his 20s was apprehended in Fairford shortly before 10 pm. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

Acting Detective Inspector Sophie Dawkins of Gloucestershire Police’s Criminal Investigation Department said the incident has caused understandable concern within the local community. She confirmed that the victim and suspect are known to each other and that police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case.

Increased police presence will continue in the area in the coming days, and residents are encouraged to speak to officers if they have any concerns.

Police have also appealed for anyone with information or footage related to the incident, including dashcam or CCTV recordings, to come forward and assist with the investigation.
