A man perched on a viaduct in Stroud was safely moved to a secure location following 12 hours of negotiations with emergency responders. The incident began in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, when police were alerted to a man in a precarious position on the viaduct at Merrywalks, Stroud.
British Transport Police received the initial report around 1:30 a.m., rapidly deploying officers to the scene. Negotiators spent the following hours engaging with the man in a careful effort to secure his safety. At approximately 1:00 p.m., the man was safely detained and transferred to a place of safety where he is now receiving appropriate support.
The prolonged operation resulted in the closure of several roads, including a stretch of the A46 from Cainscross roundabout to Beeches Garden roundabout, to facilitate emergency services. This disruption lasted throughout the negotiation period but has since been lifted.
