Man Rearrested Amid Key Break in Carol Clark Murder Case

A major breakthrough has occurred in the long-unsolved murder case of Carol Clark, whose life was tragically cut short over three decades ago. Carol was only 32 years old when her partially clothed body was discovered by a dog walker amidst reeds and undergrowth alongside the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal on March 28, 1993.

The investigation revealed that Carol had been strangled and suffered a broken neck. Despite the passage of more than thirty years, Gloucestershire Police have remained committed to solving the case. On the 33rd anniversary of her death last month, the force issued a renewed appeal for information, hoping to uncover new leads.

This determination bore fruit on Tuesday, April 14, when officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team arrested a 69-year-old man at a Gloucester residence on suspicion of Carol’s murder. The individual, who had already been arrested as part of the investigation in 2023 and had remained under close scrutiny, was taken into custody again following what the police described as a “significant development” in their inquiry.

Carol’s family has been informed of the latest progress in the case. Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Usher, head of the Major Crime Investigation Team, expressed the importance of this development in their pursuit of justice. “For the past 33 years, we have worked tirelessly to uncover the truth behind Carol’s death, and we will continue to exhaust every possible lead,” he said. Usher also extended his gratitude to the public and media for their ongoing support, emphasizing the commitment to keeping Carol’s family updated as the investigation evolves.

This renewed effort represents a hopeful step towards resolving a painful chapter in Gloucestershire’s history and delivering long-awaited closure to Carol Clark’s loved ones.
