Man Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Drunk Woman After Night Out

A man has been convicted and jailed for sexually assaulting a vulnerable woman who had collapsed after a night out drinking. Abdulla Ali was sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court on Thursday, December 11, for touching the woman and ejaculating on her after she lost consciousness while walking home on July 28.

Court proceedings revealed that Ali, a stranger to the victim, approached her while she was unsteady and led her off her intended route. CCTV footage captured Ali crouching over the woman after she collapsed out of frame. He left briefly but returned and led her again before leaving alone.

Prosecuting barrister Simon Burns stated, “The defendant exploited a particularly vulnerable woman, ejaculated onto her trousers, and admitted to touching her private parts.”

The woman regained consciousness at home the following day, unaware of the assault. She later reported the incident to police and attended a Sexual Assault Referral Centre. Forensic tests confirmed semen stains on her clothes. Police matched Ali’s DNA to the evidence after reviewing CCTV footage. Ali denied the assault but admitted to involuntary ejaculation, claiming he had only tried to help her.

Originally charged with attempted rape, Ali pleaded guilty on October 8 to sexual assault, acknowledging that he led the victim away against her will and intentionally masturbated on her.

In a powerful victim impact statement read aloud in court, the woman expressed the profound emotional trauma she endured:

“I feel overwhelmed with fear and anxiety and constantly think ‘what if’ as I plan my day. My freedom feels stolen, causing immense stress and worry. I can’t recall what happened, but I question this man’s morality for exploiting my vulnerable state. I wonder if he has a mother, sister, or daughter and how he would feel if they were violated. I seek justice—not indifference.

He has shattered my faith in humanity and left me fearing for my future. Though I don’t want this to define me, overcoming this trauma will be a long struggle. I want him to see through my eyes, understand the pain he caused, and show true remorse for his actions that cannot be undone.”

Ali, an asylum seeker from Egypt with no prior convictions, was sentenced to two years in custody and will remain on the Sex Offenders' Register for ten years. The court was advised he is likely to face deportation following his sentence. After sentencing, he apologized to the victim.

Detective Constable Simone Bowley praised the victim’s courage: “Had she not come forward, this man’s appalling actions might never have been uncovered. Ali claimed he was helping her, but this was unmistakably sexual assault. She was not in a state to consent. His accountability sends a vital message that such abuse will not be tolerated.”
