Man in his 70s dies in field fire in Chipping Campden

A man in his seventies has died following a large fire in a field in the Cotswolds village of Chipping Campden.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called at 5.38pm on Monday 3 August after several reports of a significant blaze in fields located behind Berrington Road and Castle Gardens.

Gloucestershire Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The force has informed the man’s family and the coroner and said their thoughts are with those affected by the tragedy.

Police have stated that there is no suspicion of third party involvement in the death.

At the peak of the emergency response, thirteen fire engines and multiple other emergency services attended the scene. Fire crews worked diligently alongside neighbouring fire services to bring the fire under control.

Nathaniel Hooton, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said:

“We responded promptly following reports of a large fire in Chipping Campden and deployed considerable resources to manage the situation. Our deepest condolences go to the family of the deceased and the wider community during this difficult time. We are grateful to our colleagues from Hereford and Worcester and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Services for their support in controlling the fire.”

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary added:

“Following last night’s fire in Chipping Campden, a man in his 70s from the local area was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. His family and the coroner have been informed, and we extend our sincere sympathies to all who knew him. There is no indication of third party involvement in his death.”
