A man in his 70s has tragically died following a large fire in a field in the Cotswolds. Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at 5.38pm on Monday, 3 August, after multiple calls reporting a significant blaze in the fields behind Berrington Road and Castle Gardens in Chipping Campden.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene. At the peak of the incident, thirteen fire engines were deployed, alongside other emergency personnel. Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain and extinguish the fire, with assistance from neighbouring fire services including Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Nathaniel Hooton, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said,

Gloucestershire Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. They have informed his family and the coroner, and are currently not treating the death as suspicious.
A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary stated,
“Following the fire in Chipping Campden, a local man in his 70s was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. His family and the coroner have been informed, and our thoughts remain with all those who knew him. There is no suspicion of third party involvement.”
