Man Dies Following Medical Incident Days After Falling to Avoid Vehicle in Ross-on-Wye

A 74-year-old man has tragically passed away after suffering a medical incident just days following a fall caused by trying to avoid a vehicle that had mounted the pavement in Ross-on-Wye.

On Thursday, July 24, at approximately 4:20 pm, West Mercia Police responded to reports on Broad Street where the man was found experiencing a medical episode. Emergency services attended promptly, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigations revealed that three days earlier, on Monday, July 21, a car mounted the pavement on Copse Cross Street. The man had stepped aside to avoid the vehicle but stumbled and fell as a result.

Detective Inspector Ben Pearson expressed condolences to the man’s family and explained that the narrowness of Copse Cross Street often forces drivers to mount the pavement. He emphasized that there is no belief the driver intended to cause harm.

Police are appealing for witnesses who were in the area around 6 pm on Monday, July 21. They specifically encourage individuals with dashcam footage from Copse Cross Street at that time to come forward. Authorities also seek to speak with the driver involved to clarify the circumstances.

Anyone with information is urged to contact DI Pearson at 01432 347277, referencing incident number 334i of July 24, 2025.
