Major Search Underway in Tewkesbury After Person Reported in River Avon

Authorities in Gloucestershire are actively searching a section of the River Avon near Mythe Road in Tewkesbury after reports that a person entered the water on the evening of December 19. The incident prompted a swift response from multiple emergency services.

Locals witnessed a significant police presence, with helicopters flying overhead throughout Friday night and into Saturday. Gloucestershire Police confirmed the operation is ongoing, with assistance from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the National Police Air Service, and the Severn Area Rescue Association.

Police received the initial call around 9 pm from the ambulance service following eyewitness reports. The river’s conditions remain challenging, with elevated water levels and a strong current resulting from recent heavy rainfall, complicating search efforts.
