A significant multi-vehicle collision on the A417 near Brockworth, Gloucester, has led to the road being closed in both directions, causing extensive traffic disruption this evening, June 4.
The incident was first reported at approximately 5:15 PM, with the road closure taking effect at 6 PM. The accident has also resulted in an oil spillage, exacerbating the situation. According to traffic tracking service Inrix, the closure spans between the A46 Shurdington Road and the A436 Air Balloon Roundabout near Birdlip.
This has created heavy congestion on surrounding routes, with traffic backlogged to M5 Junction 11A, the Gloucester/Brockworth Bypass, and severe delays through Birdlip as vehicles attempt to reroute.

Meanwhile, northbound movement is currently being held as emergency services, including Gloucestershire Police, manage the scene.
Motorists are strongly advised to allow extra travel time, with delays currently exceeding 60 minutes. Emergency responders are actively working to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.
