Major Gloucestershire Road Remains Closed After Serious Collision

A significant traffic disruption is underway in Gloucestershire following a serious crash on the A417 Birdlip bypass. The collision, involving a car and a lorry, occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, February 2.

Gloucestershire Police have closed the A417 in both directions between Cirencester and Gloucester, including the Air Balloon roundabout. Additional closures have been implemented at key junctions: the M5 Junction 11A slip road, B4070 Buckholt Road junction, and the Twelve Bells junction.

Emergency services remain on site, and authorities warn that these road closures will likely continue for several hours. Drivers are urged to avoid the affected areas and plan alternative routes to minimize disruption.

A police statement emphasized the seriousness of the incident: “Following the two-vehicle collision on the A417 Birdlip bypass, we have closed multiple roads to ensure safety. Motorists are advised to stay informed and steer clear of the area while emergency operations are ongoing.”

Authorities also request that anyone who witnessed the crash but has not yet contacted police provide information by completing an online form, referencing incident 133 of February 1.
