Major Expansion Approved for Brockeridge Farm Business Park Near M50 and M5, Creating 500 Quality Jobs

Plans to expand Brockeridge Farm Business Park, located near the M5 and M50 motorways in Gloucestershire, have received formal approval following a planning inspector’s review. This 11.7-hectare extension aims to add up to 33,329 square meters of space dedicated to storage and distribution, promising the creation of approximately 500 high-quality jobs.

Originally submitted in December 2021 by Tiarks Property Developments, the application faced initial rejection by Tewkesbury Borough Council in June 2025, with the council citing conflicts with 23 local development policies. Despite these objections, a planning inquiry in May overturned that decision. The planning inspector noted a critical shortage of employment land within the Tewkesbury, Cheltenham, and Gloucester areas and described the development plan as “chronically underperforming.” The inspector also emphasized that much of the cited policy conflict carried limited weight, as it stemmed from outdated regulations overtaken by recent circumstances.

Conor Flanagan, Director at Black Box Planning representing the applicant, expressed satisfaction with the outcome. He highlighted support from planning officers and Gfirst LEP, underlining the project’s potential to inject £27-30 million in gross value added each year, provide £16-20 million in wages, and stimulate significant economic benefits during both construction and operation phases.

Tewkesbury Borough Council’s lead member for planning, Councillor Sarah Hands, acknowledged the inspector’s decision, explaining that the council reviewed evidence from both sides before deciding not to contest the appeal further. She confirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring the development proceeds in line with approved plans and conditions.

This approval marks a critical step toward addressing employment land shortages in the region while boosting local economic growth through substantial job creation and infrastructure investment.
