On Saturday evening, the M50 motorway near Tewkesbury experienced significant disruption after police pursued a vehicle linked to drug activity. The incident unfolded around 5:40 pm on the eastbound carriageway, affecting traffic between junction two (A417 Ledbury) and junction one (A38 Tewkesbury).
West Mercia Police confirmed that officers had been tracking the vehicle between junctions three and two due to suspicions related to drugs. The vehicle came to a stop on the motorway, but the driver abandoned it and fled on foot. For safety reasons, two lanes were closed while officers conducted a search for the individual.
Despite the search efforts, the driver was not located, and investigations remain ongoing. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police stated: “At approximately 4:45 pm on Saturday, we tracked a vehicle on the M50 linked to drug offenses. After the driver abandoned the vehicle, the road was temporarily closed for officer safety during the search, but the occupant could not be found. Enquiries to identify the driver continue.”
