National Highways have announced that the M5 southbound near Gloucestershire’s Junction 9 will remain closed as morning traffic begins due to extended overnight roadworks. Originally scheduled to finish by 6am, the maintenance work has overrun and is now expected to conclude around 7am.
Although the roadworks are now complete, the closure is still in the process of being lifted, resulting in delays for motorists during the busy rush hour period. Drivers are advised to plan for potential hold-ups when travelling through this area.
A spokesperson from National Highways stated: “The M5 in Gloucestershire, southbound at Junction 9, is closed due to overnight planned roadworks that have extended past the initial completion time. We appreciate everyone’s patience as the works are being finalized and the road reopened.”
