Traffic came to a complete halt this evening when a lorry struck a railway bridge over St Paul’s Road near Carlton Road in Cheltenham. The vehicle, which was carrying items on its roof, collided with the bridge known to have a 15-foot clearance, resulting in the load being shed on impact.
Gloucestershire Constabulary responded promptly, closing the road to all traffic while arranging for a recovery vehicle to clear the scene. A police spokesperson reported that the incident occurred shortly after 6 pm on Monday, 30 March. Fortunately, the lorry driver is not believed to have sustained any injuries.
Authorities urge drivers to heed clearance warnings to avoid similar incidents in the future.
