Traffic came to a halt this evening when a lorry struck a railway bridge over St Paul’s Road near Carlton Road in Cheltenham. The vehicle, which was carrying items on its roof, collided with the bridge despite a clear warning sign indicating a 15-foot clearance.
Gloucestershire Constabulary responded promptly, closing the road to all traffic to manage the incident and arrange for a recovery vehicle. A spokesperson for the police said, “We were called shortly after 6 pm on Monday, 30 March, regarding a lorry collision with a bridge on Carlton Place. The lorry shed its load as a result of the impact. Currently, the road remains blocked while recovery efforts are underway. Fortunately, the driver has not sustained any injuries.”
Motorists are advised to avoid the area while recovery operations continue to restore normal traffic flow.
