Lorry Collides with Cheltenham Bridge, Shedding Load and Halting Traffic

Traffic came to a complete standstill this evening after a lorry struck a railway bridge on St Paul’s Road near Carlton Road in Cheltenham. The incident occurred shortly after 6 pm, when the vehicle, carrying items on its roof, collided with the bridge despite clear signage indicating a 15-foot height restriction.

The impact caused the lorry to shed part of its load on the roadway. Gloucestershire Constabulary promptly responded to the scene, closing the road to all traffic to ensure safety while recovery operations were underway.

A spokesperson for the police stated: “We are attending a single-vehicle collision on Carlton Place in Cheltenham. The lorry collided with the bridge and shed its load. The driver is not believed to have been injured.”
