Longtime Benidorm Resident Discovers Charming Hidden Bar with Unbeatable Prices

Michelle Baker, a British expat and longtime resident of Benidorm for over 40 years, has uncovered a true hidden gem in the heart of the Spanish holiday town. Through her popular Facebook page, Benidormforever, Michelle shared her excitement about Rumbo Bar, tucked away in Benidorm’s Old Town.

Rumbo Bar has been part of the community since 1968 and is now lovingly managed by Juani and Nico. Michelle, a former newspaper operator who raised her children in Spain, expressed her enthusiasm for the bar, calling it a perfect example of the welcoming small establishments she champions.

Located just off the bustling square overlooking Mal Pas beach, the bar is a cozy retreat with quirky decorations, pet-friendly policies, and an inviting atmosphere enhanced by board games for visitors to enjoy. Michelle highlighted the exceptional value offered here: a beer accompanied by two tapas costs just €4.90 (about £4), a glass of wine is only €2.20, and coffee is priced at €1.50.

For those seeking something a bit more refined, Rumbo Bar offers two cocktails for €10. The air-conditioned interior provides a peaceful haven from Benidorm’s livelier scenes, making it an ideal spot to relax and socialize.

Michelle’s mission is to showcase these lesser-known venues before they get overshadowed by larger chains. She emphasized, “Supporting small bars truly makes a difference – it brightens their day and shows in the care they give to their guests.”

On a recent visit, Michelle chatted with owner Juani, who shared his unique approach to running the bar. Despite no music playing regularly, Juani, a musician himself, sometimes serenades visitors, hoping to create a welcoming environment where people can meet new friends and feel at home.

Rumbo Bar’s charm hasn’t gone unnoticed. Followers of Michelle’s page expressed eagerness to visit, with one noting they had never seen the bar despite frequent trips to Benidorm’s Old Town. Others fondly recalled memories connected to Rumbo, highlighting its warm, community feel.

One patron remarked they appreciate that the bar offers a more authentic, less crowded experience away from the typical tourist crowd, making it a special place for relaxation and socializing.
