Longborough Road Closure to Trigger Six-Mile Diversion for Eight Days

Drivers in the Cotswolds village of Longborough will face a six-mile diversion due to a scheduled road closure for resurfacing works. Moreton Road, located three miles southwest of Moreton-in-Marsh, will be closed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM starting Tuesday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 10, and again on Monday, June 22. There will be no closures over the weekend of June 6 and 7.

The closure zone extends just over a mile—from Longborough & Sezincote Cricket Club to Quarry House on Ganborough Road—and includes Charlesway and Longborough High Street up to the Village Hall. Because of the closure, drivers will need to take a diversion route that stretches six miles south to Stow-on-the-Wold before looping back north via the A429 Roman Road to reach Longborough.

Residents who usually park within the closure area must find alternative parking during closure hours, as vehicles obstructing the works may be towed. The road closure will also impact two cul-de-sacs accessed via Charlesway: The Folly and Bean Hill.

Pedestrian access to properties within the closure will be maintained when safe, but vehicle access will be strictly prohibited to ensure safety. The Gloucestershire County Council Highways team issued a letter explaining that the temporary closure is necessary under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to safeguard workers and residents during resurfacing. The order covers a larger area than just the resurfaced section to allow for machinery and materials movement.

The council apologizes for the inconvenience but emphasizes the importance of safety and has planned the works to minimize disruption. Emergency vehicles and statutory undertakers responding to emergencies will still be allowed access.

For updates on the roadworks, residents are advised to check the Gloucestershire County Council website or follow official Gloucestershire Roads social media channels.
