Lloyds Bank issues update on account changes with important October date

Lloyds Bank has provided an update regarding forthcoming changes affecting customers with Halifax accounts. The bank confirmed that it is sending “notice of closure” messages to inform customers about the transition of their accounts.

This announcement comes after a customer expressed concern on social media about the process, prompting Lloyds to address some of the negative feedback surrounding the migration from Halifax to the Lloyds Bank brand. Both Halifax and Lloyds have been part of the Lloyds Banking Group for several years.

In response to customer uncertainty about deadlines, Lloyds clarified the official timeline. The bank stated that Halifax app and online banking services for digitally active customers will begin closing from 5 October 2026. However, closure dates may vary between customers, with each individual receiving a Notice of Closure that explains their specific timeline.

For customers who use the Halifax app, the migration to Lloyds Bank involves only a few straightforward steps. Those who do not currently use digital banking can begin accessing their Halifax accounts through the Lloyds app. According to guidance on the Halifax website, “If you don’t currently use online or mobile banking, you can start using the Lloyds app now to see your existing Halifax accounts. Once you’ve downloaded it, you can set it up using your Halifax account details.”

Importantly, key account features will remain unaffected following the transition, ensuring continuity for customers throughout the migration process.
