Lisa Faulkner, wife of celebrity chef John Torode, spoke openly about the close relationship between her husband and his long-time MasterChef co-host Gregg Wallace just months before serious allegations emerged.
For nearly two decades, Torode and Wallace have been a definitive presence on British television, revolutionizing the MasterChef series since they took over hosting duties in 2005. Their partnership refreshed the competition, challenging contestants to prove their culinary skills until one champion was crowned.
In an interview with The Times last August, Faulkner highlighted the remarkable camaraderie between Torode and Wallace, affectionately describing the subtle ways they connect on screen. “When someone messes up a sauce, the way they look at each other! And if a contestant is slow getting their plates out, they both twitch in exactly the same way,” she said. “I honestly think they are one of the great TV couples.”

She even jokingly admitted, “I’m not even sure we have that,” implying that the closeness shared by the duo might surpass her own relationship with her husband.
However, this close partnership came under strain after independent investigations substantiated numerous allegations against Wallace, including inappropriate conduct and unwelcome physical contact. Over 40 complaints were upheld by the law firm Lewis Silkin, leading to Wallace’s departure from the BBC show.
Simultaneously, an allegation of using racist language was upheld against John Torode. Torode has denied the claim, stating he “has no recollection of the incident” and expressing shock and sadness over the accusation. The BBC condemned the findings and confirmed that Torode’s contract on MasterChef will not be renewed.
Despite these upheavals, John Torode’s association with ITV remains, with his and Lisa Faulkner’s show, John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen, continuing as scheduled.
The once inseparable duo of Torode and Wallace now faces an uncertain future, marking a significant moment in British television history and the legacy of MasterChef.
