Liam Kinsella Joins Hednesford Town on Two-and-a-Half-Year Deal After Leaving Cheltenham Town

Liam Kinsella, the experienced 29-year-old midfielder, has committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract with Hednesford Town, an ambitious club competing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. This move follows his recent departure from Cheltenham Town, confirmed last Thursday.

Hednesford Town currently sits second in the league and is preparing for a crucial home game against Leek Town this Saturday. The signing of Kinsella is a significant boost for the club’s promotion hopes.

Andrew Reed, Hednesford’s director of football, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m absolutely delighted to get this over the line. Liam is a local lad in the prime of his career with tremendous ability and pedigree. His decision to join Hednesford at this stage speaks volumes about the club’s ambition and vision. We’re building something special here, and Liam’s arrival is a strong statement of intent.”

Kinsella himself commented on his new chapter: “Hednesford is clearly a club on the rise, and I wanted to be part of that journey. I’m eager to contribute fully and help the team achieve promotion in the short term, while pushing further in the coming seasons. I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Manager Gavin Hurren highlighted the impact Kinsella will have on the squad, saying, “Bringing in a player of Liam’s calibre is a huge step for us. He’s a consummate professional, hardworking, and brings quality, leadership, and experience to a vital area of the pitch. His character and mentality fit perfectly with what we want at Hednesford.”

Kinsella’s arrival adds to a growing list of players and staff with previous ties to Cheltenham Town at Keys Park. Assistant manager Lee Vaughan, defender Chris Hussey—who famously scored the free-kick that secured Cheltenham’s League Two promotion in 2021—and players Omari Sterling-James, Joss Labadie, and Max Sheaf all boast connections to the Robins.

Historically, Cheltenham Town and Hednesford Town have shared competitive moments dating back to their non-league battles in the late 1990s, with Hednesford edging the league title race in 1994/95 by six points.

As Kinsella embarks on this new chapter, both he and Hednesford Town are focused on pushing toward promotion and building a bright future.
