Liam Kinsella Joins Hednesford Town After Leaving Cheltenham Town

Liam Kinsella has committed to a two-and-a-half-year contract with Hednesford Town, following his recent departure from Cheltenham Town. The 29-year-old midfielder brings valuable experience to the ambitious non-league club currently sitting second in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Hednesford Town’s director of football, Andrew Reed, expressed his enthusiasm about the signing: “I’m absolutely delighted to get this over the line. Liam is a local lad at a great age with tremendous ability and pedigree, and his arrival is a real statement of intent. For him to choose Hednesford at this stage of his career speaks volumes about our ambition. I can’t wait to see him in a Pitmen shirt.”

Kinsella is eager to embrace the new challenge. “This club is clearly on the rise, and I wanted to be part of this journey. I’m excited to get started and give my all. Our short-term goal is promotion, but we aim to keep climbing higher. I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Manager Gavin Hurren highlighted Kinsella’s qualities: “Bringing in a player of Liam’s calibre is huge for us. He is a consummate professional, a hard worker in midfield who offers quality, experience, and leadership. His character and mentality align perfectly with our club ethos. This is a significant signing, and everyone here is very excited.”

Kinsella joins a squad with strong Cheltenham connections, including assistant manager Lee Vaughan and players such as Chris Hussey, Omari Sterling-James, and former loanees Joss Labadie and Max Sheaf. Hussey notably scored the free-kick that secured Cheltenham’s League Two promotion in 2021.

Historically, Cheltenham Town and Hednesford Town have competed in the Conference and the Southern League Premier Division during the 1990s. Hednesford, managed by John Baldwin, clinched the Southern League title in 1994/95, finishing ahead of Cheltenham, who later progressed to higher levels under manager Steve Cotterill.

Cheltenham Town are set to face Grimsby Town in League Two this Saturday at 3 pm.
