Cheltenham Town have strengthened their attacking options by securing the season-long loan signing of Leicester City forward Kirsten Otchere. The 19-year-old arrives at Whaddon Road following a promising pre-season campaign with the Foxes, where he scored three goals and earned commendations from Leicester City manager Russell Martin.
Otchere, regarded as a versatile forward, impressed throughout the pre-season, adapting well to the tactical demands placed upon him. His role involved dropping deep to link play with midfield and wingers, while also making intelligent runs behind the defence. His physicality and strength at such a young age have also been noted as key attributes.
Josh Holland, Leicester Mercury’s Foxes reporter who has closely followed Otchere’s development, commented on the player’s qualities: “He showed great adaptability and held his own physically. His performances in pre-season, including a standout display against Bristol Rovers where he excelled in the less glamorous aspects of striker play, indicate a forward eager to prove his capabilities.”

Despite his promising start and goal-scoring form, it was anticipated that Otchere would gain valuable first-team experience through a loan move. Manager Russell Martin, who praised the player’s efforts, has emphasised the need for the club to have three strikers with different attributes, which means Otchere’s loan departure opens room for further signings.
Reflecting on his pre-season achievements, Holland noted: “Otchere impressed many, scoring three goals that boosted his confidence. While some goals benefited from fortunate circumstances, his strike against Cádiz in Spain showcased brilliant movement and a well-executed header.”
Looking ahead, confidence remains high regarding Otchere’s potential impact in League Two. Holland added, “If given regular playing time, he’ll adapt well. Leicester City have a successful track record of loaning players to the fourth tier, seeing positive development. Otchere is a clever player, well-regarded at the club, with even suggestions he could compete at League One level,” he explained.
