Speculation is mounting that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could soon become residents of the Cotswolds, and notable local figure Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has issued a cautionary message to the couple. The picturesque region, which boasts celebrities like Jeremy Clarkson, Beyoncé, and the Beckhams among its residents, is rumoured to be the new home for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The couple, accompanied by their children Archie and Lilibet, arrived at Birmingham Airport just before midday on Wednesday, flying in from California aboard a private jet. This marks a significant change after six years based in the United States, following their formal step back from senior royal duties in 2020.
In an exclusive interview with the Express, Llewelyn-Bowen noted that Birmingham Airport is the nearest major transport hub to the Cotswolds, lending weight to the speculation surrounding their potential relocation there.

Describing the Cotswolds, the interior designer explained it has two distinct sides: a more glamorous ‘Schmancy’ area and a more relaxed part where he lives with his family. Should the Sussexes settle in his neighbourhood, he has specific advice, particularly for Meghan.
He remarked, “It will be interesting to see how the Duchess fits in because, unlike the other side of the Cotswolds, we’re much less impressed by celebrity. Many celebrities who are authentic and down-to-earth are drawn to our side.”
Llewelyn-Bowen cited Prince Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne, as an example of someone familiar to locals who goes largely unnoticed when visiting the nearby railway station. “People appreciate straightforwardness,” he added.
While there have been reports of some local concerns about the couple moving to the area, Llewelyn-Bowen believes Harry will be more readily accepted due to his longstanding ties with the region. However, he suggested Meghan will need to be very genuine to win over the community.
“The Cotswold folk can really sense insincerity,” he stated. “There are some very steely females here who won’t offer a warm welcome unless she keeps my advice in mind.”
He cautioned Meghan against adopting any airs and graces, especially when interacting with other local parents at the school gates. “I wouldn’t want to upset the other Cotswold mums,” he added. “Unlike in Montecito, they don’t have a celebrity safety net like Oprah Winfrey.”
Regarding the possibility of them settling nearby, Llewelyn-Bowen expressed enthusiasm about welcoming the family and even offered his professional help with interior decorating.
“We would welcome them warmly into the Llewelyn Bowen Pattern Emporium if they need assistance with curtains, cushions, or any décor needs,” he said. “However, I’m not entirely sure we’d be Meghan’s cup of tea,” he concluded.
