In a thrilling Les James League Cup final at Sharpness' Hamfield ground on Saturday, Lewis Vye’s spectacular late goal ensured Frampton United successfully defended their title with a 3-2 victory over determined Quedgeley Wanderers.
Frampton, reigning champions under Lee Driver-Dickerson after last year’s win against Henbury & Rockleaze, seemed on track for a straightforward repeat triumph. Early first-half goals from Theo Browne and Myron Turner gave them a comfortable 2-0 lead by halftime.
Despite early pressure from Quedgeley through Declan O’Shea and Fin Jenner, Frampton goalkeeper Tom Kaye denied both attempts, maintaining his team’s advantage. The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Browne’s shot deflected off a defender and found the net. Turner extended the lead 14 minutes later with a composed finish into the bottom left corner, capitalizing on Quedgeley’s attempt to play out from the back.

Frampton almost added more before the break, with Browne hitting the post and a goal-line clearance thwarting a second chance. Quedgeley’s O’Shea responded with a long-range effort, but Kaye remained resolute.
The second half saw Quedgeley mount a vigorous fightback. In the 63rd minute, Henry Miles expertly curled a shot into the bottom right corner to start the comeback. Seconds later, Jenner fired in a powerful strike following a half-cleared corner by Riley Stokes, leveling the score at 2-2.
Quedgeley pushed aggressively for a winner, with Stokes narrowly missing the target with a curling shot in the 72nd minute. Just when the match looked destined for penalties, Vye seized the moment. Driving forward from deep inside his own half, he combined with teammates before unleashing a stunning strike into the top right corner past goalkeeper Steve Sparrow in the 85th minute, sealing a dramatic victory for Frampton United.
